But they stated the county may still independently push for the ALPRs so it’s important to show up today and let the county know we don’t want ANY more or ANY ALPRs!!! 💪

Last week at the Hudson County Commissioners meeting, it was revealed that Weehawken passed an ordinance authorizing the installation of Automated (AI) License Plate Readers and is seeking approval from the county for a few on county property. Most likely the local police requested the funding for these cameras. We don't know exactly when Weehawken authorized this, with what corporate contract, or how many cameras. What we do know is that ALPRs share data with ICE through the third-party corporations, even if the local police are following the Immigrant Trust Directive; and that Federal and out-of-state Law Enforcement can access the data in ways that endanger abortion and gender-affirming care seekers who come to NJ. We also know that Hudson County needs to approve a few cameras on county property and has veto power over them. We have two pathways to stop some or all of these cameras:

1) Hudson County Commissioners Meeting on Thursday 4/23/26 @ 4:30PM (567 Pavonia Ave in Jersey City - near Journal Sq. PATH). They can vote to veto the options on county property. Free parking in the lot across the street as long as you tell them you're there for the meeting (entrance to lot is on Central Ave).

2) Weehawken can repeal the ordinance authorizing the cameras. Weehawken's Town Meeting on Wednesday 4/22/26 @ 7PM (400 Park Ave).

3) Contact Weehawken local government and ask them when ALPRs were approved, that you are concerned about privacy with ICE, Federal, or out-of-state Law Enforcement accessing our data through the contracted servicer/vendor.

4) Contact Hudson County Commissioners before Thursday 4/23/26 at 12PM to tell them to vote NO on ALPRs in Weehawken or anywhere in Hudson County.
