Stop Uinta Basin Railway Action

Stop Uinta Basin Railway

Stop the Uinta Basin Railway is a coalition of concerned communities joining together to use their collective power to prevent construction of a new railway connecting the Uinta Basin oil fields in Utah and the national rail system. We collaborate to organize actions and events to stop this disastrous project that would worsen climate change, exacerbate environmental injustice, and pollute clean drinking water.

In an era of climate crisis, building a new railway for oil trains is incompatible with the health of our communities and a just future. This railway would ramp up oil production and could release greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to the emissions from the entire state of Utah. The derailment of trains carrying toxic chemicals in Palestine, Ohio foreshadows what could happen in our communities along the route – which travels through Utah, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, New Mexico, and Kansas – if the railway is built. Additionally, the railway would worsen the injustices faced by communities overburdened by pollution from refineries in Washington, Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana.
