The Max Project – Berkeley Animal Transparency & Reform Coalition
Berkeley, CA
We are Berkeley (California) residents advocating for humane, transparent, accountable practices at our city’s animal shelter. After the preventable euthanasia of Max (an adoptable young German Shepherd found in the Berkeley Hills) we are organizing to demand the reforms our community expects: clear public timelines, at-risk dog listings, a functional foster network, and full transparency around evaluations and euthanasia decisions.
This coalition welcomes pet owners, volunteers, rescuers, walkers, and all who believe Berkeley should uphold the highest standards of animal welfare. Together, we can protect vulnerable animals and ensure public oversight of a taxpayer-funded institution.
