We are a group of neighbors in Union Square, Somerville, MA.

Our message to developers and the city of Somerville is: Stop messing around, and build affordable housing now.

We recognize that we are in a housing crisis.

Admirably, Somerville committed to building 1,200 units of affordable housing by 2030.

But as of 2023, 900 units are yet to be completed.

Developers, including US2 in Union Square, have committed to building affordable housing units, but drag their feet. Often, this is because affordable housing projects are less profitable than more lucrative projects such as commercial lab space and market rate or luxury housing units.

Meanwhile, the major and planners at the city have been unable or unwilling to hold the developers to their contractual commitments.
