Every Child Deserves to Be Safe Around Water
Drowning is a leading cause of death for children and a growing number of adults are drowning throughout New York. The hardest part is—it’s largely preventable.
Every summer, New Yorkers across the state head to the beach, the pool, or the waterfront. These should be places of joy, connection, and relief. But for too many New Yorkers, a day in the water turns into tragedy.
Not because they didn’t care.
Not because they were reckless.
But because they didn’t have the knowledge they needed at that moment.
That's why the Water Safety Coalition strongly urges our State Senators and Assemblymembers to pass the Water Safety Education in Schools Act (S9480 / A1080), which will ensure that every child in New York public schools learns the basics of water safety in the classroom and will equip parents with water safety education materials.
Please join us in asking your local State Senator and Assemblymember to pass the Water Safety Education in Schools Act before the end of session!
