Oppose Department of Government Efficiency Blocking HIV/AIDS Relief
The legacy of compassion from Starcross Monastic Community is deeply rooted in its response to the AIDS pandemic. As Brother Tolbert McCarroll says, caring for children with AIDS is in our heritage. When many turned away, Starcross stood as a sanctuary, holding tiny children in our arms, offering love where society had abandoned them. The scars of that era still ache, but what haunts us most today is that the tragedy is not over.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and other non-profit organizations committed to ending the global AIDS epidemic are now being blocked from accessing vital funds by the Trump Administration under the leadership of Elon Musk.
"At a minimum, 300 babies that wouldn't have had HIV, now do." remarked one USAID worker.
We know what happens when care is delayed or denied. We know the names, the faces, and the stories. And we know this heartbreak is preventable. Mother-to-child HIV transmission should be a tragedy of the past, but here we are—again—facing preventable suffering.
We urge you to join us in advocating to protect children and families from becoming another statistic of preventable loss.
In the spirit of Starcross’s legacy, every voice matters. Every delay in action risks a life. Please contact your representatives and make sure they understand what’s at stake.
