Tell Senator Nilsa Cruz Perez: Return EMR's Campaign Donations!

Senator Nilsa Cruz Perez of the 5th Legislative District is up for re-election next year, along with the rest of our State Senators and General Assembly Members. If we want a better South Jersey, a socially, economically, and environmentally just South Jersey, we need to make sure our elected representatives are standing with the community, not corporate interests.

One corporate interest that absolutely has no place in our 2027 state elections is EMR, the scrap metal facility in the city of Camden that has been the source of 12 heavily polluting fires over the past five years. Again and again, EMR has demonstrated it does not care about the enormous harm it causes to public health in the city and air quality countywide. Thanks to EMR’s cozy relationship with the Norcross brothers– George and Donald – EMR received an enormous tax subsidy to set up shop in Camden. It has harmed the public and even harmed its own own workers, drawing public outrage. So why is Senator Cruz Perez still taking money from EMR?

Senator Cruz-Perez has accepted two donations from EMR for her 2027 re-election campaign. These donations were accepted even as the city burned and residents were forced to breathe in the myriad of pollutants released into the air by EMR. Join us in calling on Senator Cruz Perez to give those donations back and publicly repudiate EMR. We need the Senator to make clear that she stands with her constituents, not with the corporate actor that is putting them in harm’s way! Please take a minute to tell Senator Cruz Perez to return EMR’s campaign donations for her 2027 re-election race.
