Divest MSU From Israel and Weapons Manufacturers
We call on Michigan State University to accept the demands of the hurriya coalition:
1. Divestment: Currently, MSU has over 500 million dollars invested into weapons manufacturers and pro-Israel investing firms that violate the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) list. This also includes over 200,000 dollars as aid to Israel. We demand immediate and full divestment, and community input on investment practices.
2. Education: MSU must create a Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) and Arab
institute that could act as the social, cultural, and educational home of
Arab and MENA students across Michigan and the country. Furthermore,
We demand MSU works to hold popular education events regarding the
genocide and the occupation, so all are aware of the real history of
Palestine, and to counter the othering of Arab, specifically Palestinian
people on campus and in our community.
3. Safety: Pressure MSU OIE to take action and commit to safety of Arab and pro-Palestine students. We are aware that Islamophobia anti-Arab hate are forms of bigotry that are tolerated by many institutions in the US, we demand that MSU address these forms of hate adequately and protect students.
4. Support: Providing supportive resources for students, including academic
accommodations, culturally informed mental healthcare, DEI training (with
special emphasis on anti-arab and islamophobia) for students, staff and
faculty, and creating designated spaces for arab and muslim students
(outside of the shared reflection rooms). Acknowledgement of MENA
identities and experiences as separate from white identity, and in doing so,
allowing this to inform developments in the Discrimination Policy (ADP).
MSU cannot take a stance of neutrality during a genocide. Let the Board of Trustees know that we hear their silence loud and clear. Demand that they no longer support a genocidal regime by divesting immediately from Israel, weapons manufacturers, and other companies supporting Israel.
