URGENT: Act Now to Save Empire Wind
On December 22, 2025, the U.S. Interior Department issued a stop-work order on Empire Wind and Sunrise Wind—two fully permitted offshore wind projects critical to New York’s clean energy future. Empire Wind is over 60% complete and scheduled to deliver 810 MW of renewable power to 500,000 homes. Sunrise Wind will add 924 MW for 600,000 homes. Together, they represent 10% of NYC and Long Island’s electricity needs, stabilize utility bills, and create thousands of union jobs.
Equinor has warned: if work does not resume by January 16, Empire Wind will very likely be terminated, due to a strict timeline and cascading effects. This would jeopardize billions in investment, grid reliability, and New York’s climate goals.
Take Action:
- Contact your elected officials today and urge them to press federal authorities to lift the stop-work order immediately.
- Share this alert widely on social media and with your networks.
- Emphasize the stakes: energy security, affordability, and thousands of jobs.
