Tell the Camden County Democratic Committee: We Need a Fair, Open Endorsement Process!

There are currently three Democrats running in this year's US Senate race in New Jersey: South Jersey Congressman Andy Kim, social justice organizer Larry Hamm, and the wife of Governor Murphy, Tammy Murphy. The point of a Primary Election is for Democratic voters to decide which of these candidates should become their nomination in the General Election. However, New Jersey's ballots are deeply flawed and allow the chairs of county parties to award preferential placement on the ballot to their preferred candidate. Academic research shows that running on the "county line" in the primary ballot gives a candidate a 38 point advantage--a hefty head start over the other candidates in the race.

This election is an opportunity to return integrity to the office of US Senate after the scandals of our current Senator Bob Menendez. However, we will only get a functioning democracy here in New Jersey if citizens demand one.

Corrupt tycoon George Norcross  (who is also under investigation!) is once again trying to determine the fate of New Jersey elections. Media sources have reported that George Norcross met with Governor Murphy to discuss the election, after which George announced his support for the Governor's wife. Less than a week later, George Norcross met with South Jersey party chairs and Camden County Democratic Chair Jim Beach and other county chairs publicly endorsed Tammy Murphy. As citizens, we need to call out this kind of undemocratic behavior and demand better!

Every New Jersey town has local delegates (called county committee members) whose job is to fairly and actively represent local Democrats to their county party. Join us in calling on members of the Camden County Democratic Committee to do their job and protect elections and citizens' voices. We call for an open process in which all candidates are given an equal chance of endorsement. New Jerseyans deserve fair elections!
