No Minister - Tell Minister Carey to reject tourism development at the gateway to Greens Pool

In 2021 the Denmark Shire Council identified William Bay National Park as under pressure, with Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks being over-promoted, over-visited, congested and in danger of environmental degradation from too much tourism.

Yet the Denmark Shire Council agreed - 3 against, 4 in favour - to rezone land at the gateway to William Bay National Park from rural to tourism to accommodate a major tourism development.

  • William Bay is a world recognised biodiversity hotspot and its fragile ecosystems need protecting from over-tourism.
  • Six State government agencies have expressed concerns about the proposed development including road safety, habitat protection, management of water - effluent and nutrient run-off, bio-security related to the movement of people, health and bushfire risks.

Time is running out.

Approval of the tourist rezoning is now with the Hon John Carey, Minister for Planning for a final decision. He needs to hear from everyone who loves Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks, and wants to keep it intact for future generations.
