Support walkable/transit-oriented housing in Edison Park

80 homes are proposed in a mixed-use development at 6750 N. Northwest Highway in Edison Park, 200 feet away from the Edison Park Metra station.
Why we're excited about this project:
- Replaces a funeral home with a large parking lot
- Located in the middle of Edison Park’s central business district, so it’s a short walk to numerous shopping destinations, further enabling car-free trips
- Walking distance to CTA 68 and 209 bus lines
- Located in an exclusionary, high-resource neighborhood in the 41st Ward ($115,000 median household income)
The meeting to discuss the development was so crowded that not everyone could fit into the room. Block Club reported that opinion was overwhelmingly negative toward the project with opponents citing the usual worries of increased traffic and not enough parking. The project will have 67 parking spots, 27 more than required by Chicago’s TOD ordinance, as well as a bike room. 8 of the units will be affordable at 60% AMI, half of the required amount, which was protested by residents who don’t want any affordable units.
We are calling on Alderman Napolitano to support the project. Chicago's wealthiest residents should not be allowed to singlehandedly block the construction of desperately-needed housing units in their neighborhood. Let's show that you believe in welcoming new neighbors by sending a letter of support for the project.
