Support the RIFL Act (HB 3320/SB 2279)
Thank you for supporting the RIFL Act (Rep. Olickal, HB3320 & Sen. Peters, SB2279).
The RIFL Act creates accountability for firearm manufacturers through a special state treasury fund that pools contributions annually from firearm manufacturers solely based on their contribution to injury and death. The RIFL Act requires firearm manufacturers to share the public costs that the injured, taxpayers, and the state pay for gun injuries and deaths. The funds provide support for survivors of firearm injury and resources to community violence intervention, high-risk youth intervention, and case management.
Importantly, this legislation creates a financial incentive for manufacturers to reduce their products' association with injury and death. The RIFL Act motivates manufacturers to reduce the harm and costs their products create, innovate safer products, and engage with our communities and leaders on prevention. In year 1, the RIFL Act is estimated to net $297 million in benefits to Illinois, and by year 3, $520 million.
