Meet our demands for a cancer-free campus at NC State
On November 19, 2024, the NC State Campus Community delivered a petition demanding that the University take steps towards true accountability for the health and safety of the people - past, present, and future - who learn, think, work, and play on our campus. Chancellor Randy Woodson responded to the over 1,300 people who signed the petition with a generic, unsympathetic email that did not address any of the petition demands.
As demonstrated by their handling of the Poe Hall crisis, Chancellor Woodson and NC State University Administration have repeatedly proven that they privilege corporate interests and their own reputations over the health and safety of the members of our NC State Campus Community. Since a whistleblower forced the University to conduct environmental testing in Poe Hall in August 2023 (revealing toxic levels of PCBs in the building), NC State has only complied with limited safety and testing measures after rigorous pressure from the media, teams of lawyers, and the campus community.
We must apply pressure on an administration that will not act in good faith on its own. We remain steadfast in our efforts to keep each other safe on campus, and secure financial and medical assistance for the hundreds of people harmed by decades of exposure to PCBs in Poe Hall.
