AB 2433 Signature Request

California is in a severe housing deficit. We do not have enough homes to meet demand and are not building at a quick enough rate to catch up. In response, the California State Legislature has passed bill after bill to streamline housing production, with the goal of making it quicker and easier to build the homes we desperately need.

The streamlining law that has yielded significant results is California Density Bonus Law (Bonus Law). In the four years following recent enhancements in the State legislature, Bonus Law was used to approve over 140,000 new homes. This is more than ten times the approvals of all other tracked streamlining laws combined.

Despite its widespread use, Bonus Law projects still face unnecessary barriers. AB 2433 (Alvarez) addresses these issues to make California's most utilized streamlining law even more effective. Additionally, the bill further incentivizes affordable homeownership opportunities. Further, it seeks to construct even more affordable housing, by ensuring that 100 percent affordable homebuilders have access to all of the benefits under the law that are currently available to market-rate builders.

Bonus Law is a proven tool that works. This legislation includes reforms to make it work faster and better. It was passed unanimously by the Senate and Assembly. Send a letter to Governor Newsom urging him to sign this bill into law!

AB 2433 is Authored by Assemblymember David Alvarez and sponsored by Circulate Planning & Policy, SPUR, San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, Inner City Law Center, and Greenbelt Alliance.
