ACT NOW: Hands Off Housing!
Congress is struggling to finalize a fiscal year (FY) 2025 spending bill, and without a resolution by March 14, the federal government may shut down. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is essential in providing funding to address homelessness and if cut from this year’s budget, people won’t be able to access life-saving and critical housing assistance and supportive services here in Orange County.
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is also proposing to cut HUD staff by half, decimating the agency and its ability to help states and communities address their most pressing affordable housing, community development, and homelessness challenges.
We need YOUR voice to speak up for our community and tell your Members of Congress how important HUD is and request them to protect it in the ongoing debates over the 2025 budget bill.
Please add your voice to this campaign and send a customizable email to your lawmaker’s offices. We've drafted a message that contains all of the details and we encourage you to add any personal material to help advocate for supporting solutions to homelessness.
You can also contact your Legislators by phone (see here for how to and some talking points) and if you’re active on social media you can speak about this using this hashtag: #HandsOffHousing
