State Representative Kristian Grant (D-Grand Rapids) has introduced a package of housing bills in the lame-duck session that ends on December 19, 2024. The current legislature could pass bills right now that would allow duplexes by right, limit the number of parking spaces required per unit, and streamline the approval process for new housing.

Michigan urgently needs to build more housing to tackle the affordability crisis. The Michigan Housing Forward Act is a huge step in the right direction, but we need to act now before the legislature changes next year.
