Action Alert: Support SB 5680 - Right to Repair for Wheelchairs

We need your help to pass the right to repair for wheelchairs!

Last week, wheelchair users helped narrowly pass SB 5680 out of committee to give people with disabilities the right to repair their own wheelchairs. Now we need your help passing it on the house floor.

Send an email to your Representatives urging them pass SB 5680 in its strongest form.

Currently, there are few options to repair wheelchairs in Washington State. Wheelchair users commonly face long delays in getting chairs repaired, delays that complicate wheelchair users' lives and can endanger their health. SB 5680 would give wheelchair users control over their own devices by requiring wheelchair manufacturers to provide wheelchair owners and independent repair shops with the documents, software, and access to parts needed for repairs. Learn more about the importance of Right to Repair on our FAQ page.

Right now, national industry groups are trying to water down SB 5680 with amendments that would prohibit wheelchair users from fixing a majority of their repairs. The two national wheelchair sales and repair companies often claim to act in wheelchair users best interest, but wheelchair users would be better served if they were empowered to decide for themselves when repair companies' services are needed.
