Action Alert: Tell Your U.S. Representative to Pass the Inflation Reduction Act
The U.S. House of Representatives could vote on the Senate-passed Inflation Reduction Act as soon as Friday, August 12. This historic bill includes many of Medicare Rights’ long-standing priorities to make health care and prescription drugs more affordable for current and future Medicare beneficiaries:
- The bill lowers costs for people with Medicare by extending full Part D Low Income Subsidy (LIS) assistance to individuals with incomes up to 150% of poverty; capping annual Part D drug spending at $2,000; limiting insulin costs to $35 a month; and eliminating cost sharing for Part D-covered vaccines.
- It begins to address the drivers of those costs through key Medicare structural reforms, such as requiring Medicare to negotiate drug prices, penalizing manufacturers for price hikes that outpace inflation, and better aligning Part D pricing incentives.
- The legislation also continues the Affordable Care Act plan subsidies that have helped so many obtain coverage with enrollment at an all-time high, often easing Medicare transitions and costs.
While many in the U.S. House of Representatives have signaled support for the bill, we can’t take anything for granted. Make sure your representative knows to vote YES! Send a letter today.
