Advance Community Trust Act (HB1575/SB791) and Private Immigration Facilities - Data Zoning Requirement (SB984) Today!
The Maryland State delegation is running out of time to approve bills out of committee. There are two critical immigration bills that we would like to push the committees to advance for a vote. Our priority bill is the Community Trust Act, which is stuck in both the house and senate (HB1575/SB791) for a vote and seeks to close loopholes around how state personnel may collaborate with ICE in the future. The second bill Private Immigration Detention Facilities - Zoning Requirement (SB984) is stuck in the senate and will prohibit detention centers from being constructed on land original zoned for warehousing purposes. To strengthen immigration protections across the state, we believe both bills should be pushed forward for a vote in their respective committees.
