Alumni Open Letter in support of student-led Liberated Zone at Gaza House
Dear colleagues,
The University of Waterloo senior administration has failed to take seriously the concerns of its students, faculty, staff and alumni. We are calling for the alumni community to come together and show support for the student encampment and their demands.
For months the students have tried to reason with the administration, peacefully protest, and use other forms of solidarity; this has resulted in nothing but empty words from senior administrators. The University of Waterloo is actively involved in long-term relationships with an Apartheid state and Apartheid institutions. The University of Waterloo is complicit in genocide.
We invite all University of Waterloo Alumni to sign this open letter in support of the student-led liberated zone at Gaza House (formerly Graduate House) and their demands of disclosure, divestment and full cultural and academic boycott. We have also created an option for community members to sign as a show of solidarity and support by community members since the establishment of the encampment has been an overwhelming response.
This letter will be sent to Vivek Goel’s office as well as the office of various University of Waterloo leadership and admin, and may be posted publicly, published, or shared with media, with signatories listed.
