Ask Nash County Board of Education to Commit to Reopen SAFELY!

North Carolina and Nash County are in the worst days of the COVID pandemic, but our Superintendent of Nash County Public Schools has decided to send all students back into school buildings on Monday, Jan. 25th for a mix of in-person and remote learning. Given the rate of viral spread in Nash County and the death of 13 NC educators from COVID, WE KNOW THIS IS NOT SAFE.

Please join educators and parents and send a quick letter to all of our school board members. We call on the Nash County Board of Education to call a Special Meeting for Friday, January 22nd to re-open when we can RE-OPEN SAFELY.

What does “RE-OPEN SAFELY” mean?

  1. ACCESS TO THE VIRUS VACCINE BEFORE educators & staff are forced back into school buildings.

  2. FULL TRANSPARENCY of virus infections: Not just “active” cases and clusters but total infections, clusters AND # of confirmed person-to-person infections in each school and the week those occurred.

  3. GUARANTEE OF 6-FEET of social distancing for all students.

Why are these guarantees necessary to RE-OPEN SAFELY?

HARD FACTS our School Board must acknowledge:

  • 13 North Carolina educators have died from COVID.

  • NO educators under age 65 have been vaccinated yet.

  • Nash County’s COVID Alert Level is RED (critical).

  • 11.7% of Nash Co. residents testing for COVID turn out infected.

  • 7,257 Nash Co. residents have been infected. 126 have died.

  • NC’s Health Secretary has issued a directive for all North Carolina residents to “not enter any public indoor spaces where anyone is unmasked or when you see crowds of people who are not physically distanced.”
