Ask your legislators to sign the No Utility Money Pledge

Investor-owned, for-profit utilities in Massachusetts spend hundreds of thousands of dollars every year in lobbying costs and donations to Statehouse politicians to influence energy legislation in their favor. Utility companies are uniquely successful throughout the legislative process, and corporations far outspend climate advocates. This success can be seen in utility profits which continue to rise: last year, Eversource made almost $1 billion, doubling their profits from 2024. At the same time, our energy bills are skyrocketing.

While PACs can donate unlimited funds to the campaigns of legislators, individuals can donate up to $1000 per year and lobbyists can donate $200. These individual donations can add up. Check out this dashboard to see how much your legislators have received.

It is abundantly clear that in order for the MA Statehouse to make robust progress on an equitable energy transition and energy affordability, utility influence must be dampened. That’s why we’re joining our partners at the Mass Power Forward coalition to call on our legislators to take the No Utility Money Pledge and promise to not take donations from utility PACs or from employees of utilities!
