Austin Needs Solar on City Buildings!
It’s time for the City of Austin to invest in solar energy for city buildings. An Austin Office of Climate Action and Resilience analysis shows that 10 megawatts of solar energy could be installed on City of Austin buildings and paid for from the General Fund (which includes tax dollars). Public Citizen’s analysis of a broader set of City of Austin buildings showed potential for 14 megawatts of solar. These numbers are two to three times larger than Austin Energy’s current Community Solar program. And the city’s analysis shows that solar on city buildings could pay off in as little as six years. This investment is a no-brainer that benefits the environment and the electric grid while saving money -- all at the same time.
Let’s do it! Email the Austin City Council now to support solar for city buildings.
