Belstaff: Bad for Workers, Bad for our Planet
Belstaff markets itself as iconic British luxury for independent rebels, but there’s nothing iconic or cool about Belstaff and its parent company INEOS – the giant fossil fuel and chemicals producer.
In fact, Good On You, the journal of ethical and sustainable fashion, gives Belstaff a rating of “WE AVOID.” Even worse, the company that owns Belstaff has been condemned for causing air and water pollution, dangerous leaks, fires and explosions, plastic waste and carbon emissions, and for lobbying to weaken green taxes and reduce restrictions on fracking.
It should be no surprise that Belstaff is ranked so poorly for ethics and sustainability, and that its parent company is contributing to the climate catastrophe. After all, INEOS has devastated its own employees and families in Ohio by eliminating its employees’ retirement fund, demanding employees with children pay over $100 per week for health insurance and leaving workers with no choice but to file charges against the company for violating United States labor law.
