Tell NY Revoke Slaughterhouse Licenses to Prevent Bird Flu!

WHO statement on bird flu

Richard Ball, Commissioner of the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets (DAM), has the authority to revoke slaughterhouse licenses for not maintaining "adequate sanitation." Add to the fact that the WHO just warned us to stay away from live markets to curb the spread of bird flu.

DAM has cited NYC's 75+ slaughterhouses with violations that, according to its own laws, are grounds for license suspension and revocation. In addition, Slaughter Free NYC has gathered years of evidence that demonstrates Ball's gross negligence in enforcing his department's own laws, thereby endangering public health, workers, communities, animals and the environment. We demand that Ball take action to revoke slaughterhouse licenses in NYC for failure to comply with state laws.

Please take action here to send a strong message to top officials at the DAM NYC office, urging them to enforce their laws and revoke slaughterhouse licenses for inadequate sanitation, the incubators of bird flu and other dangerous pathogens.
