Tell AGs: Sue to Block Trump’s Medicaid Work Requirements Now

Trump’s Medicaid work requirements are a paperwork trap designed to rip health care away from people who need it most. A coalition of 25 states and D.C. just sued the Trump administration to block the rule.

They are arguing that Trump’s CMS went beyond the law, narrowed protections for medically frail people, and blindsided states with new requirements that could force sick and low-income people off Medicaid.

Under Trump’s rule, a diagnosis of cancer, end-stage renal disease, HIV/AIDS, or another serious medical condition may not be enough by itself to qualify for an exemption. Patients could be forced to prove their illness “significantly impairs” their ability to work before they can keep their coverage.

That is exactly how Republicans cut health care while pretending they are only asking for paperwork. People who are working, sick, disabled, caring for family, or legally exempt can still lose coverage if they miss a notice, misunderstand a deadline, or cannot navigate a deliberately confusing system.

Some states are fighting back. Now, every Attorney General must follow their lead. And the AGs already in court must know the public has their back as right-wing politicians pressure them to retreat.

Medicaid is health care. It is survival for families, seniors not yet eligible for Medicare, disabled people, people with serious chronic illness, rural communities, and hospitals that cannot absorb more uncompensated care.
