Press Congress to Assure the Safety of Umm Al Kheir Village
On July 28, 2025, Awdah Hathaleen, a young Palestinian teacher, peacemaker, and father of three young boys, was killed by a previously sanctioned Israeli settler. Awdah was deeply loved by his students, his family, his Palestinian Bedouin village of Umm Al Kheir, and all who visited.
When the Israeli Army refused to return Awdah's body, the women of Umm al-Kheir, led by his mother, wife, and sister, began a hunger strike on July 31st to demand the most basic human dignity: to bury their son, husband, and brother in his village. On August 7th, with the intervention of Israel’s High Court, Awdah’s body was laid to rest.
The settler who killed him was released on August 1st. Just four days later, on August 5th, his bulldozer cut the village’s water supply, threatening the survival of the entire community. This was not just property destruction, it was an attempt to eradicate the village.
