Bring Film Jobs Back to San Diego County
San Diego County is one of the only major regions without a modern film office — and we’re losing jobs because of it.
San Diego has the locations, the talent, the weather, and the world-class infrastructure — but we’re missing the basic public tools that make a region “film-ready.” Without a county-level film office and a coordinated, accountable system, productions choose other regions that are easier to work with and more competitive.
The San Diego County Film Initiative is a practical, job-focused plan to change that. It would establish a modern County Film Commission and Film Office that can coordinate permitting, support local jurisdictions, and build a predictable pipeline for production — while keeping strong oversight and transparency. It also lays the groundwork for a smart, accountable incentive model that prioritizes local hiring, workforce training, and measurable return on investment.
This isn’t just about movies. It’s about middle-class jobs, small business revenue, and training pathways for San Diego residents — including apprenticeships and opportunities for young people and veterans. Help support this effort by telling the San Diego County Board of Supervisors that we are ready for a Film Commission, Full Film Office and a Film Rebate program.
