Call to Action: OPPOSE SB 442
SB 442 is a bill that creates different license renewal requirements for citizen and non-citizen truck drivers with Commercial Driver’s Licences (CDLs) in Georgia. The bill revokes non-citizens’ CDLs upon the expiration of such persons’ visa or in five years, whichever comes first. The bill also requires only non-citizens to retake skills and knowledge tests if transferring their CDL from out-of-state.
Generally, CDL-holders in Georgia are able to renew their CDLs every eight years with a vision exam and the required paperwork–knowledge tests are only required for drivers who want to add additional endorsements to operate certain types of vehicles. For no justifiable reason, this legislation discriminates against non-citizen truck drivers with license revocations and onerous testing requirements that are not expected of their citizen counterparts.
We need your help in defending immigrant truck drivers against this plainly discriminatory policy. Take a moment and contact your legislator and urge them to OPPOSE SB 442.
Note: SB 442 passed out of committee. Please help continue to make sure your representatives oppose SB 442 by sending the letter to your House Representatives.
