We Demand Ethical Investments!

Carleton University is investing over $34 million into corporations complicit in grave human rights violations. These include companies arming the Israeli military, building illegal settlements, surveilling Palestinians, deporting migrants, and fuelling systems of incarceration and warfare.

This marks a 200% increase in complicit investments since the last year's leak.

Carleton University invests in a diverse range of private and public companies, with a pension fund totalling over 1.8 billion dollars. These investments are intended to generate revenue, which supports the university’s financial health and growth. However, it was revealed that some of these investments are in companies that have been identified as complicit in human rights abuses. Specifically, investments have been linked to companies involved in:

  1. Occupation and Displacement: Companies supporting or benefiting from the occupation of Palestinian territories.
  2. Genocide and State Violence: Companies profiting from state violence and conflicts that result in widespread human rights violations.
  3. Deportations and Incarcerations: Companies profiting from the deportation of students and migrants, including the separation of thousands of children from their families.

Several databases document the involvement of the following companies in the above-mentioned practices: UN OHCHR Database, Investigate - Database of Companies Profiting from State Violence, and Who Profits Research Center.
