SAVE DICKENS LANDING

In January 2024, our community celebrated the completion of the Dickens Greenway, a low-stress bikeway first proposed in 2019. The keystone of the greenway is Dickens Landing, a new plaza on Dickens Avenue that transformed a street next to Cummings Playground into new parkland. Funded by $1 million from Divvy riders who contribute to bike infrastructure, this greenway and plaza have enhanced safety by limiting vehicle traffic on Dickens Avenue. It has become a vibrant area where families, children, and neighbors gather, play, and connect.

Now, after just nine months, the city plans to remove Dickens Landing. This is unacceptable, especially amidst a traffic safety crisis that saw 51 pedestrian and cyclist fatalities in a single year on Chicago roads. Write letters to city officials to demand that Dickens Landing remain a permanent feature, and that the city implement a comprehensive bike grid in Chicago with low-traffic, low-stress bikeways.

Together we demand that the city move beyond piecemeal measures to create a safer, more connected Chicago for everyone.
