Classrooms Over Contracts: Restore Funding to Sac State NOW!

LATimes - CSU Students Protest Tuition Increases at the almost-million dollar Chancellor's Office

We’re worn down by the relentless fear and anxiety of being priced out of our own education, scrambling to pay fees that cover someone else’s executive paycheck before our own classes. A single missed enrollment means staying back a semester, delaying our degrees forever, only to then enter a job market that doesn't pay your degree's worth. This letter calls for three important things:

  • Reinstatement of full funding for Sac State—we have reached or exceeded our enrollment targets and must not be punished for growing our student base. The state has a budget surplus and our University clearly has a budget problem that no one seems to be able to solve;
  • Implement complete fiscal transparency and autonomous audits of system and campus finances before imposing any major new fees— It is quite-telling when a University system meant to build California's working-class forces them to bail out surpluses and executive paychecks when two-thirds of CSU graduates leave campus weighed down by debt they can never repay.
  • Cap executive salaries at under the President of the United States—no public university president or chancellor should earn more than $400,000 a year when average pay of a University President nationwide is at $180K;

REMEMBER YOU CAN ALWAYS EDIT THE LETTER TO SPEAK TO YOUR EXPERIENCE AND YOUR DEMANDS. The more personal experiences you can lay out, the reason behind this passion and anger and rage, the more you can engage them to actually, act on your behalf.

TO TAKE ACTION:

Write down your name and address under the "Take Action" button on the side. If you do not feel comfortable giving out your full address, I believe you should be able to write in Sac State's address to fill the Address portion. It is "6000 J Street, Sacramento, CA 95819". For your email address, you can use the Sac State Outlook Email Address. The list will match your district showing you, your Representatives at the State Capitol. Next, a pre-written email draft will pop up. Now is the chance to edit the letter to include your name, experiences and demands before you send the letter. This letter is only between you and Representative and the organizer of this campaign will not be able to access them.
