Coastal Commission poised to reject Santa Monica-style STR regulations in Malibu!
Malibu’s proposed short term rental ordinance is intended to prevent the spread of “party houses” and at the same time preserve housing in our community. The proposal does so by requiring that hosts of single-family vacation rentals be present in the home to ensure that the guests abide by local noise and parking rules and do not disrupt the neighborhood.
This proposal balances the interest of Malibu residents with affordable access to our beautiful coast for visitors of all income levels.
The Coastal Commission is set to DENY Malibu’s commonsense regulations of short-term rentals at a meeting on Friday, August 12th. The Commission’s reversal of Malibu’s regulations sets a dangerous precedent for beach communities that want to protect their neighborhoods up and down California’s coast.
This decision impacts more than just residents in Malibu. You can contact the Commission no matter where in the state if you care about protecting housing and coastal access.
