Collective Bargaining Rights for Faculty

For far too long, faculty at Maryland's public universities have been left behind when it comes to collective bargaining rights. Almost every other public, private, and state employee in Maryland has the right to form a union, as do faculty at the peer institutions of UMS, yet year after year our legislature has failed to pass legislation that would afford the same rights to our higher educators. Full and part time faculty face increasing workloads, attacks on academic freedom, and tenuous job security in a system that consistently erodes faculty voice, rendering shared governance meaningless. Join us in telling Senate President Bill Ferguson and your delegates that it is past time to provide non-tenure track faculty at Maryland's' four-year public universities the right to collectively bargain their terms and conditions of work into a union contract.
