Contact Judge Celina Vasquez & Express your Thanks and Encouragement for the Moratorium!
We're pursuing this letter campaign to urge our elected officials, specifically our Justices of the Peace as they oversee evictions proceedings, to put a moratorium on evictions until at least August 25th. Fortunately, your JP Celina Vasquez has already done so, and we applaud her for her initiative.
Sending this letter will express your thanks to Judge Vasquez, and also your encouragement to extend the moratorium if necessary.
The Coronavirus crisis has left many without any source of income, but our rent and bills don't stop. Currently, the unemployment rate in Brazos County is 9% and rising, which is an almost 250% increase since April. Some news sources are predicting that as many as 23 million people could be evicted by October. Now more than ever we can't allow our own neighbors to be evicted from their homes.
Evicting people from their homes is always, but especially now, a cruel and inhumane way to organize society. We need a system that recognizes housing as human right, not a commodity.
