Contact your Legislators about Passenger Rail Funding and Potential Cuts to Medicaid Expansion for Ohioans with Disabilities

Protect Medicaid Expansion & Support Accessible Transportation for Ohioans with Disabilities.

Tens of thousands of Ohioans with disabilities rely on Medicaid expansion (Group VIII) to access basic healthcare, maintain stability, and remain out of institutions. This includes family caregivers, people with disabilities who work part-time, and others who fall outside traditional Medicaid eligibility but still live with real health needs.

At the same time, our state must invest in accessible, affordable public transportation—including passenger rail funding for the Detroit-Toledo-Cleveland corridor. This route is a vital link for people with disabilities in Northwest and Northeast Ohio, connecting them to healthcare, jobs, family, and opportunity.

Reliable, accessible transportation goes hand-in-hand with healthcare access in supporting independent living and reducing costly institutionalization. Eliminating Medicaid expansion or failing to fund accessible passenger rail improvements would:

• Force many caregivers to abandon their roles and seek other jobs to afford health insurance—leaving loved ones without essential in-home supports.

• Push people with disabilities into institutional care settings.

• Undermine employment, education, and health outcomes for people with disabilities who rely on Medicaid and transportation access to maintain independence.

Contact your Senators NOW and ask the committee to amend the "trigger" provision, replacing “shall” with “may” to ensure flexibility for Ohio to respond to federal changes—and to support funding for the Detroit-Toledo-Cleveland passenger rail corridor to expand accessible, affordable transportation for people with disabilities.
