Tell Costco’s Board of Directors and CEO Ron Vachris: Don’t cave to extremists. Allow your pharmacies to carry mifepristone nationwide now.

Women’s health and freedom are not negotiable.

Yet Costco has announced it will cave to pressure from extremists and not dispense Mifepristone, the safe FDA-approved abortion pill, at any of its 500+ pharmacy locations.

This dangerous and shortsighted decision came after pressure from the religious groups Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) and Inspire Investing, which are waging a nationwide campaign to block access to abortion medication.

Mifepristone is not controversial in the medical community. It has been safely used by millions of women for decades and is recognized worldwide as an essential medication. By refusing to dispense it, Costco is undermining reproductive healthcare and caving to a vocal minority of extremists who want to eliminate abortion rights entirely.

Other pharmacies like Walgreens and CVS are standing up for reproductive healthcare. Costco must do the same.

Claims of “weak demand” are nothing more than an excuse to avoid a political fight. The truth is that millions of women rely on this medication, and access is becoming harder every day as state abortion bans spread.

We cannot let corporations dictate whether women can access legal, safe medication. If Costco gets away with caving to extremist pressure, it will embolden groups like ADF to expand their campaign to every pharmacy chain in America.
