Patterson is one of California's fastest-growing cities — and one of its most medically underserved. With no local emergency care, Patterson residents face a 25- to 30-minute ambulance ride every time a medical emergency strikes. Access to care has been identified as Stanislaus County's #1 health issue, and one in three Patterson residents say they couldn't get the medical care they needed last year.

AB 2282, authored by Assemblymember Juan Alanis, would authorize a rural emergency stabilization center in Patterson — a bridge solution while Del Puerto Health Care District builds the community's permanent hospital, with groundbreaking planned for 2027. The center would be staffed 24/7 to full hospital emergency standards, with board-certified physicians, on-site lab and radiology, and full compliance with federal emergency care law. Patients who need trauma care, surgery, or hospital admission would still be transported directly to the appropriate hospital — this facility fills the gap for everyone else.
