DC Council - Stand up to Mayor Bowser's Harmful Budget Proposals to Family Leave!

Mayor Bowser has shamefully proposed destroying Paid Family and Medical Leave for both the private and public sectors.

For DCPS Employees this would mean:

  • Be employed by the District for at least 180 continuous days to be eligible.
  • Employees could be denied leave from their employer if it isn't a good time from their boss' perspective.
  • Removes grandparents and siblings from the list of defined family members for which family care leave may be taken.
  • Reduces the maximum leave that can be taken when caring for a defined family member for qualifying family leave events from eight weeks per year to two.
  • Requires probationary employees to enter into a continuation of service agreement to stay on as an employee for at least 12 weeks after the use of paid parental, family or medical leave or face having to pay it back

For the private sector she is proposing:

  • Reducing the Medical Leave Program to max benefits by over $100 a week
  • Pausing all Medical and family/care giving leave for a full year
  • In the following year Medical and care giving leave benefits will be reduced (the number of weeks will be decreased).

This would seriously harm us and the families we serve who work in the District - all while not reducing taxes!

Take action: Write an email to send to the DC Council and Mayor's office to let them know that they must save Paid Family and Medical Leave in the Public and Private sectors!
