Councilmember Pinto, DC demands a hearing on MPD cooperation with federal forces
Washington, DC has long been in a state of crisis due to over-policing and federal overreach. These attacks have accelerated this year as part of the Trump administration's increasingly cruel mass deportation and incarceration agenda and in recent months DC residents have experienced and witnessed arrests that are violent, racially motivated, and that violate civil rights and civil liberties.
There is clear evidence that DC's Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is cooperating with federal agencies in these attacks, in violation of DC’s Sanctuary Values Amendment and in many cases in violation of our fourth amendment rights.
MPD should not be assisting federal attacks and this matter deserves urgent attention from our elected leaders. Specifically, the DC Council Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety is responsible for oversight of MPD. It is chaired by Councilmember Brooke Pinto.
We are calling on Councilmember Pinto to hold a public hearing to provide transparency and accountability on MPD’s coordination with federal law enforcement agencies, including immigration agencies. Use this form to send an email to Councilmember Pinto urging her to convene a hearing to ensure DC protects families and holds MPD accountable for their participation in these actions.
