Defend National Service in Colorado – Take Action to Save AmeriCorps
AmeriCorps, the federal agency for national service and volunteerism, provides opportunities for Americans to serve their country domestically, address the nation’s most pressing challenges. Each year, roughly 75,000 AmeriCorps members and 140,000 AmeriCorps Seniors are deployed to address locally-determined needs in rural and urban communities across all 50 states, such as responding to natural disasters, tutoring students, combating hunger and homelessness, connecting veterans to services, fighting the opioid epidemic, and much more.
In April 2025, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) ordered the cancellation of approximately $400 million in AmeriCorps grants — around 40 percent of the agency's annual budget. This decision has affected over 1,000 organizations and more than 32,000 AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers across the country. Hundreds of NCCC members have been demobilized, and most of AmeriCorps' full-time staff are facing layoffs.
Congress holds the key to sustaining and expanding this proven, cost-effective program. Despite bipartisan support, AmeriCorps funding is at risk of delay and reduction. This threatens not only the services communities rely on, but also the opportunities for over 200,000 Americans to serve their nation each year.
We’re calling on you to urge your elected officials to:
Join the National Service Caucus
Release FY25 AmeriCorps appropriations
Fund AmeriCorps at level or better in FY26
Stand with service and urge your elected officials to defend our national service organization for the benefit of current and future generations.
