Demand Interfaith Space for Baruch Students
Baruch College refuses to provide students with an adequate and appropriate space for religious activities. Students have met with the Baruch administration for several months to respectfully ask for an interfaith space that will reasonably meet their needs. Despite several pleas from students, the Baruch administration has failed to provide students with an adequate space for prayer and other interfaith activities.
Muslim students at Baruch are disproportional impacted by the administration's decision to disregard the religious rights of its students. Muslims are religiously required to pray 5 times a day and there is a significant Muslim population at Baruch. Despite the high number of Muslim students, Baruch has forced its Muslim students to pray in small, inaccessible areas on campus. As a result, students feel the administration is not providing an appropriate space because Baruch does not value its Muslim students. No matter how many overtures the students make, Baruch administrators always have an excuse for their inaction.
Notably, Baruch students identified a space that the college could easily designate as the interfaith space but administrators continue to fail in accommodating the students.
It's time you told them that their failure to respect students' religious practices will not be tolerated anymore. Demand that Baruch provide students with an adequate and appropriate interfaith space so that all students can freely practice their faith.
