Demand Mayor Woodley take meaningful action on Palestine divestment

The Mayor of Hackney, Caroline Woodley recently made a statement commiting to divest local government pension funds from companies complicit in the genocide in Gaza. In research published in February 2025 the Palestine Solidarity Campaign found that the Hackney Local Government Pension Scheme has investments totalling £106,718,226 in companies complicit in Israel's genocidal breaches of International law.

Hackney Labour and Mayor Woodley have repeatedly delayed and obstructed residents and Pro-Palestine councillors efforts to pursue divestment. Therefore we demand Mayor Woodley provide residents and local workers with clear actionable steps that outline the process toward divestment to match her broad promises. These must include:

  • Provide a date for the extraordinary full council meeting, as called for by Hackney Independent Socialists and the Green Party.

  • Endorse the Emergency Motion: "Cut all council ties with Israel’s genocide in Gaza."

  • Publish a clear timeframe for the full divestment process.

  • Disclose a detailed list of companies and financial assets the Council plans to divest from.

  • Establish a public mechanism for transparency and accountability, including regular progress updates and full publication of relevant investment data.

  • Ensure democratic process within the Pensions Committee by confirming that all members will allow open discussion on this matter moving forward.

Please use this tool to contact the Mayor making the above demands - and make your voice heard!
