Demand Montgomery County Elected Officials STOP Cuts to MCPS
Chronic underfunding and gross mismanagement of MCPS have brought our schools to a breaking point. We, as educators and community members, cannot sit idly by while MCPS leadership dismantles public education. The Board of Education has failed and MCPS leadership has failed. The recent meetings of the unions with the superintendent and her top staff to review options have exposed the grim reality that MCEA unit members—and our students—will be forced to bear the brunt of the lack of funding.
We call upon the entire Montgomery County community to stand up and fight back for our kids and our public schools. The County Executive and County Council have both the authority and ability to stop these cuts.
We urge our county leader to be champions for our children and immediately take the following actions to save our schools.
1. Issue a special budget appropriation of $10 million to prevent increases in class size, educator lay-offs, and cancelation of signed new hire contracts.
2. Use your executive power to call for an immediate investigation into MCPS by the Office of Legislative Oversight (OLO) to ensure transparency and accountability in their use of public funds.
