Right now, 16 illegally detained Armenian hostages - including Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) civilians and democratically-elected political leaders - are being forced to endure sham trials in Azerbaijan, a genocidal dictatorship that weaponizes a corrupt legal system as a means of political and societal control.
In September 2023, over 120,000 Armenians were forcibly displaced from Artsakh after being subjected to nearly 10 months of blockade of all resources by Azerbaijan, followed by a violent military assault on civilian infrastructure. Many Armenians were captured, detained, and now face these monumentally illegitimate proceedings under conditions that mock principles of justice and humanity.
Rated by Freedom House as 0/100 across all "Rule of Law" criteria, Azerbaijan's courts serve as a means of political and societal control, weaponizing blatant disregard for human rights and the international laws meant to protect them. Prisoners detained on absurd charges are subjected to routine torture to coerce confessions, denied access to fair legal representation, used as bargaining chips, and scapegoated to justify Azerbaijan’s military aggression. Every moment they remain in detention is a continued violation of international law.
These trials - based on fabricated charges - serve as a platform for the ruling Aliyev regime to bolster a Nationalist agenda denying all accountability while appropriating the real trauma and tragedy lived by victims, denying well-documented genocide while casting the blame on the victims themselves of the very atrocities they have endured.
Don't let Azerbaijan continue evading justice. Fill out the form and send a message to diplomats and NGOs claiming to fight for human rights, demanding action now to stop grave injustice from recurring!
