DEMAND SOAS DIVESTMENT
SOAS currently invests over £37 million in companies complicit in the ongoing settler colonisation and genocide in Palestine. These companies provide technology and information that are essential for the zionist occupation and its ability to commit massacres against our Palestinian siblings.
Despite the ongoing and live streamed genocide of Palestinians in Gaza for over two and a half years, and the pressure for divestment put forward by students, SOAS staff tutors and the community, SOAS has yet to divest from companies that are aiding ethnic cleaning.
But our pressure works, our student pressure works, SOAS have already divested from specific complicit companies, thanks to previous campaigns. This is why it’s imperative for the people to unite to demand SOAS to divest and abide by its supposed ‘anti colonial’ values.
‼️ We demand SOAS divests from the following companies, for the following reasons: ‼️
- Microsoft: Known as perhaps the most complicit tech company in the settler colonisation and genocide of Palestinians. Arms the Zionist Entity with surveillance technology used to racially profile Palestinians and impose its colonial rule.
- Alphabet Inc: Arms settlers with border patrol technology to secure the perimeter of their illegal settlements in occupied Palestine. It is also one of the two lead contractors on “Project Nimbus”, a $1.2bn AI infrastructure plan for the Zionist Entity. It is used for surveillance and targeting Palestinians, including facial recognition.
- Amazon: The other “Project Nimbus” contractor. The Zionist Entity has required Amazon to guarantee uninterrupted service to all state entities, including the Israeli Occupational Forces (IOF) and even to secretly warn them if foreign courts try to access Israeli data.
- Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing: Provides chip services to the Zionist entity for “national security” and surveillance and produces semiconductors for the U.S. Department of War which are used to manufacture F-35 fighter jets used for genocide and imperialist wars of aggression as we have seen in the mass massacres of our Palestinian siblings.
- Goldman Sachs: Underwritten $7bn in “Israeli war bonds” since 2023, being the biggest issuer of bonds. This has contributed significantly to funding of the ongoing genocide in Gaza.
