Demand that Congress stop ICE’s racist immigration crackdown, now!
The Department of Homeland Security has consistently denied that it uses racial profiling when determining who to stop, but now we have receipts: bodycam footage that shows otherwise.
The American Civil Liberties Union and other groups obtained DHS bodycam footage as part of a lawsuit alleging that the agency is using racial profiling in its enforcement stops. The footage shows repeated instances of ICE and Border Patrol agents using racial slurs to describe people when discussing potential stops.
While DHS claims that stops are not racially motivated and that the agency identifies its targets ahead of time, ICE’s actions say otherwise. We’ve read the stories of citizens detained by ICE and released days later. We’ve collectively mourned Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, who were murdered by ICE in broad daylight. They weren’t targets–just two men on their way to work.
Immigration stops aren’t about public safety or enforcing immigration law. They are about terror. And right now, our Latino communities are bearing the brunt of this terror.
Last year, the Supreme Court allowed ICE terror to continue. Now, DHS agents’ own bodycam footage shows them targeting people based on their perceived race.
We can’t trust a captured, corrupt Supreme Court or the Trump administration to uphold the constitution and protect immigrants. Congress has the power to end this reign of terror and these racially motivated attacks on our communities. It’s their duty to step in—and it’s the duty of the people to demand they do.
Take action today. Send a message directly to your member of Congress and tell them America is paying attention. Demand that Congress stop ICE’s racist immigration crackdown, now!
