Demand Transparency and Inclusive Public Participation in Elizabeth City Government
We, the community members of Elizabeth, demand that the City take immediate action to improve transparency, accessibility, and public participation in local government.
New Jersey’s Open Public Meetings Act (OPMA), also known as the Sunshine Law, was created to ensure that government business is conducted openly and that the public has meaningful access to observe and participate in the democratic process. The current City practices fall short of that promise.
Public meetings belong to the public. Transparency builds trust. Accessibility strengthens democracy. Elizabeth residents deserve a government that welcomes participation, not one that creates barriers to it.
We urge the Mayor and City Council to place these items on a public agenda and take formal action to implement these changes without delay.
