Our public community colleges - such as City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) - are a vital part of the public education system. About 60,000 poor and working class CCC students continue education, learn English, get their high school equivalency, secure job skills, get associates degrees, and more.

It's great ... But:

Chicago City Colleges (CCC) is the ONLY community college district in IL whose people cannot vote for the Board of Trustees. Across the state, almost all school boards are elected, which adds a bit of democracy & helps keep top policy-makers accountable to students, teachers, and education advocates

Sen Rob Martwick's bill in the IL senate SB1693 to have the CCC Board elected (just like every other district in IL) has broad support.

Let your state senator know your thoughts on this.

Ask your senators to support democracy & accountability, at City College, to improve democracy and accountability in community college.
